Increase breeding assistance and reduce logistics costs

2020-11-13

The provincial government executive meeting held yesterday put forward 11 requirements, the purpose is to stabilize pork prices, ensure food safety, and increase breeding assistance.

According to the Provincial Department of Commerce, since June last year, the purchase price of pigs in our province has continued to rise. After May this year, the rising trend accelerated. At the end of June, the purchase price of live pigs was 20 yuan/kg, a year-on-year increase of more than 100%. The price of pork has also been rising. In June, the wholesale price of pork was 26.52 yuan/kg, a year-on-year increase of more than 100% and a 42.96% increase from January this year.

Due to the continuous increase in meat prices, recent market sales have declined. On July 1, the province’s wholesale market transaction volume dropped by 36.86% from the previous week (June 17).

Regarding the rising price of meat, yesterday's meeting put forward 11 requirements to stabilize pork prices. Zhao Zhengyong said that pig farmers "are also worried about the large-scale fluctuations in pork prices. They also hope that the market is stable, and they don't want prices to fluctuate dramatically."

It is understood that in the second half of 2007, the state promulgated some policies to support pig production, and some policies have not been implemented so far. "You cannot forget the peasants as soon as the situation is good." Zhao Zhengyong warned officials at all levels.

This time, support for production will be carried out in terms of increasing insurance, helping enterprises to lend money, and monitoring feed prices and quality. "Financial institutions should study loan support for pig breeding." Zhao Zhengyong said, and provided a certain amount of funds to discount interest.

Due to the increase in feed prices, some farmers reported that "pigs are more expensive to eat than humans". In this regard, Zhao Zhengyong requested strict monitoring of the price and quality of feed.

At present, logistics costs account for a considerable amount of pork prices. Therefore, “expired highway toll stations must be cancelled to reduce highway tolls.” Zhao Zhengyong emphasized that circulation costs must be effectively reduced.

In response to recent food safety issues, Zhao Zhengyong demanded severe crackdowns in accordance with the law, and "not let food safety issues damage government credibility."
